Walking and Cycling

Warrington has over 816km of quiet or off-road cycle routes. In Birchwood the main east/west cycle route runs parallel to Birchwood Way and links from it cross through residential and employment areas.

Many business premises have cycle parking areas and there is public parking at:

  • Birchwood Station both outside and on the platforms.
  • Birchwood Shopping Centre
  • The Centre, Birchwood Business Park
  • Risley Forest Park, by the Rangers Office

Bike Hire

Folding bikes can be hired from Birchwood Station from £2.50 per day, with an annual membership of £20, or £5 per day with a £1 annual membership.
Once registered as a user, bikes are hired by text or logging on to www.bromptonbikehire.co.uk  There are no limits to how long the bikes can be hired for and they can be returned to any dock nationwide (including at Warrington Central and Bank Quay stations).

Trains

There are direct trains to Birchwood Station from Liverpool, Manchester, York and Norwich. At peak times there are 8 trains an hour stopping at the station.
For those travelling from the south or north there are direct services to Warrington Bank Quay from London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. A short walk allows the onward journey from Warrington Central to Birchwood. For more rail information visit www.nationalrail.co.uk

Bus Services

Birchwood is primarily served by Network Warrington and buses link to the town centre, Gorse Covet, Leigh, Culcheth, Cinnamon Brow, Orford, Gemini Retail Park and Old Hall.
The main bus stops are at Birchwood Railway station and Birchwood Shopping Centre.

International travel

Manchester and Liverpool airports are both easily accessible by road and rail from Birchwood and offer a great range of destinations.

Driving

Most areas in Birchwood can be accessed by A574 Birchwood Way, which connects to the M62 at J11, and via Woolston Grange Avenue to the M6 at J21. This links Birchwood with the rest of Warrington and the wider motorway network.
